Hill, Virgil H. (25 October 1923 – 10 June 2020)

Virgil H. Hill, 96, of Menomonie, formerly of Merrillan, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the Neighbors of Dunn County Nursing Home. Virgil was born on October 25, 1923 in Patch Grove, to Owen and Ida (Jeardeau) Hill.

Virgil served in the Air Force from 1943 through 1945. In 1946 he began working at GTE in Prairie du Chien until 1946 at which time GTE moved him to Merrillan where he worked until 1985 when he retired.

Virgil is survived by his children Dennis Hill (Joyce), Lorinne Janicki (Ted), Pete Dohse (Fran), and Sharon Moen (Clayton), step-children, Diane Gryczkowski (Phil), Anita Johnson (Jacob), and Peggy Casper (Denis Oligney), sisters Erma Kirschbaum and Ruth Mezera (Bill), and brother, Jim.

Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife LaVina L. (Jaynes) Hill in 1992, and second wife Mildred (Staves) Hill in 2016, one daughter, Lora, and step-children Orland, Dale, and James, and five brothers, Harold, Herbie, Richard, Floyd, LaVern.

There will be a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15th, 2020 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Alma Center, with Father Dan Thelen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
