Neillsville FFA members Luke Erickson and Kaitlyn Thoma have met the requirements to earn their Wisconsin State FFA Degrees.

“The State Degree is the highest degree given to FFA members, Neillsville FFA director Amy Gerhardt said in a June 22 press release.

The list of requirements to earn the degree includes completing two years of agricultural education course, logging 1,000 hours or investing $1,500 in an agricultural project; participating in FFA events on chapter, state and national levels; completing 25 hours of community service; presenting agricultural speeches; and maintaining a C average academically.

Erickson, the son of Kevin and Jenny Erickson, has been a Neillsville FFA member for six years. He completed the diversified livestock supervised agricultural experience, which included raising hogs, beef and chickens. He has also worked at a local dairy farm and completed community development projects using his construction talents.

Thoma, the daughter of Gary and Kelly Thoma, has been a Neillsville FFA member for six years. She has completed dairy placement and food service supervised agricultural experiences. She works at a local dairy farm helping feed calves. She also works at the Speakeasy Saloon restaurant preparing food. Thoma also served as the Neillsville FFA president in 2019-2020.

Thoma and Erickson will be recognized at a virtual awards ceremony on Wednesday, July 8, by the Wisconsin FFA officer team.
