Whitfield, Clarence William (6 July 1918 – 14 December 2001) With Flag

Clarence Whitfield, age 83, of Neillsville passed away Friday, December 14 at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

Clarence William Whitfield was born on July 6, 1918 in Ipswich, South Dakota, the son of John M. and Mary Ellen (McGibbon) Whitfield. He is a World War II veteran having served in the Battle of the Bulge. Often, he would tell stories of his experience in the great battle. He was united in marriage to June Caritinos and was a shop steward of Miller Brewing Co. in Milwaukee for many years. He retired in 1976 and moved his family to Neillsville where they farmed.

He is survived by his wife, June; two step-sons, Michael (Chris) Otzelberger of Onalaska and Tom (Jackie) Otzelberger of Oak Creek; two grandsons, T.J. Otzelberger and Joe Otzelberger both of Oak Creek; three sisters, Dorothy Fowler of Neillsville, Helen Morrey of Princeton, and Florence Roeglin of Greenfield. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and step-nieces and step-nephews.

Funeral services for Clarence were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 17, 2001 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy Biebert officiated. Music was provided by Becky Lange, organist and Dawn Thoma, soloist. (Balance cut off).
