Sew & Sew Quilts Hosts (20th Anniversary Celebration – 18 May 2013)

Last week, Stanley welcomed four new businesses operated by local women, and this week saw a celebration on the other end of the spectrum!. Sew and Sew Quilts and Fabrics, located two miles south of Stanley on Highway H and left on MM, has been serving the sewing and quilting needs of the community for 20 years, so shop owner Donna Haas recently hosted a 20th Anniversary Party to celebrate (pictured above). Donna invited Kay Nickols, author of Wonderful I Fabric Quilts and Wonderful I Fabric Curves to present a lecture and sewing workshop on May 18 at Alberta’s Restaurant in Stanley. About 30 participants were treated to a trunk show of Kay’s border-striped and curved pierced quilts featuring blocks, borders, and binding all cut from the same fabric with stunning results without using any pins.

Following a complimentary soup and salad luncheon, 17 quilters constructed individual tale toppers in a curved Drunkard’s Path design without pinning one piece. To continue the anniversary celebration, Donna offered discounts at her quilt shop, where the gals purchased Kay’s books plus yardage of “wallpaper” striped fabric to create quilts of their own.

It was the perfect culmination of events for Donna’s anniversary celebration since her shop was home to about fifty members of an Eau Claire area antique car club on Wednesday. The touring group visited Sew and Sew Quilts and Fabrics before motoring on to visit other local hot spots.

If you missed the big celebration, don’t waste any more time before visiting Sew and Sew Quilts and Fabrics, often referred as “the small country shop with a big atmosphere.” The shop is open daily from 9:00 to 5:00 and weekends by appointment and is home to Sew and Sew Country Quilters who meet at the shop on the third Thursday of the month, beginning at 9:00.
