Heimstead, Leland P. (28 March 1917 - 1 October 1981)

NEILLSVILLE -- Services will be Sunday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Neillsville, for Leland P. Heimstead, 64, of 505 E. Fifth St. He died late Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

The Rev. Paul Forde, Calvary Lutheran pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the Warren Mills Cemetery, Warrens. Friends may call at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville.

Pallbearers will be Tom Flynn, Tony Svetlik, Glenn Short, Gerald Dankemyer, Alf Larson and Milton Rand.

Mr. Heimstead was born March 28, 1917, at Rice Lake, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Heimstead. He was educated at New Auburn, graduating from high school there. He also attended River Falls State College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Following his education, he worked for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad. He worked with the railroad until his retirement in 1977. He was depot agent in Neillsville from 1949 until the station closed.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

His marriage to the former Mary A. Gilson was May 16, 1943 at Warrens. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Nita Heimstead of Eau Claire; three sons, Theodore of Elk Mound, Douglas of Neillsville and Gary of Oregon, Illinois; three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Eileen) Erichsen of Coos Bay, Oregon, Mrs. Richard (Janice) McAleer of Golecka, California and Mrs. Howard (Janet) McMarty of Rice Lake; two brothers, Col. (retired) M.C. Heimstead of Huntsville, Alabama, and Robert Heimstead of Houston and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents.
