Frank Volk was born in Storje close to Trst, Slovenia on July 18, 1873. He came to Pueblo, Colorado in 1899. Mary Zitnik came from the village of Malo Mlacevo at Dolenskem. She came to Pueblo in 1901. They had been acquainted in Slovenia. On June 12, 1901 they were married at St. Mary's Church in Pueblo. Frank worked in a smelter for about four years then moved to Victor, Colorado where he worked in a gold mine.

Through a friend they heard there was good farm land in Wisconsin. In 1909 they traveled three days by train to Gorman, Wisconsin where they purchased land for their new home which now consists of 107 acres.

Frank served as Gorman depot agent. If there was any freight on the train for that area the engineer would start blowing the whistle as he left Tioga. This was the signal for Frank to be there when they arrived and he would run across the field to make it on time. When the railroad service was discontinued he bought the depot. Mary contributed her services as a midwife for many Gorman families.

The Volk family consisted of seven sons and four daughters: Mary (Mrs. Harold Hunter) lives in Joliet. Frances (Mrs. James Matouse) lives in Neillsville summers and Florida during winter. Frank passed away on December 17, 1917. Rudy married Bethel Leach, they live in Tioga. Emma (Mrs. Charles Macham) lives in Florida. Ann (Mrs. Jerome Stremikis) lives in Tioga. Joe lives in St. Paul. Albert married Pauline Perushek and lives in Madison. Gabriel is married and lives in Hinsdale, Illinois. Ed lives on the home farm. John lives in Minneapolis. Frank Sr. passed away May 7, 1959. Mary Sr. passed away February 2, 1951.
