Marie Catherine Weis was born on Aug. 31, 1928, on the family farm in the township of Day in Marathon County, the daughter of Eugene and Mary (nee Wilhelm) Weis. She was raised on the family farm and went to St. Andrew’s Catholic School in Rozellville and then she attended St. Rose, Viterbo in La Crosse. After completing her education, Marie worked in Wausau and Marshfield. She was united in marriage to Franklin J. Walter on June 12, 1952, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville. In January 1953, they took over the operation of his family farm, which they ran until 1979. After moving off of the farm, they built a home south of Loyal, and Marie worked as a home health aide at the Neillsville Nursing Home. They moved into Loyal in 1988, and she retired soon after. Her husband, Franklin, died on Dec. 27, 2013, and she continued to reside in Loyal until entering Stoney River Assisted Living in 2014. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she volunteered much of her free time. Marie also enjoyed volunteering at Ministry Home Care Hospice and at the Ronald McDonald House in Marshfield. She was involved in 4-H when her children were growing up, and also served on the Town of York Election Board. Marie had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family, quilting, sewing, cooking, canning, playing games with her grandchildren, bowling, square dancing and she enjoyed running in the Spanky’s Run during the Loyal Corn Festival.

She will be dearly missed by her children: Dave (Kris Lee) Walter of South Colby, Wash., Mary (Carl Anderson) Walter of Friendship, Jerry (Barbara Zorzin) Walter of Circle Pines, Minn., Ken (Gaylan Lemmon) Walter of Annapolis, Md., and Judy (Jim) Ihli of Mound, Minn.; 10 grandchildren: Beth (R.J.)
