Jaskot, Blanche R. (13 December 1927 – 21 October 2020)

Blanche R. Jaskot, age 92, of Thorp, passed away at Oakbrook Health & Rehabilitation on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

Blanche Roselyn Pawlak was born on December 13, 1927 in Longwood, the daughter of Walter and Martha (Paczkowski) Pawlak. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at area schools, graduating from Withee High School in 1945. After high school, Blanche attended Beauty Culture School in Eau Claire, and earned her certificate as a licensed beautician. She was united in marriage to Leonard "Corky" Jaskot on August 9, 1947 at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in rural Thorp. Over the years, Blanche worked as a beautician for Stella “Roxie” Marek and later continued the Thorp Beauty Shop out of her home. She then went to work at ITT Life in Thorp until it's closing in 1981. Blanche then worked as a C.N.A. at the Clark County Health Care Center, in Owen, until her retirement in 1995.

Blanche had the unique experience of traveling to Europe on three occasions visiting her daughter, Janice Icenhower, who lived in Frankfurt, Germany and taught at Frankfurt American High School. This gave Blanche, not only the opportunity to take in the German culture, but to travel to France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. Being a devout Catholic all of her life, the highlight of her travels was visiting Rome. She was in awe of the Vatican City and its architectural design. She felt truly blessed to have had this experience during her lifetime.

She had many interests, but especially enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, growing roses and gardening, having pets (especially cats), feeding birds, listening to old-time music, playing the concertina, and being with her children and grandchildren.

Blanche was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and its PCCW.

She is survived by her 5 children: John Jaskot of New Richmond, Janice Icenhower of Annapolis, MD, Mary Jane Troyer of Boyd, Duane Jaskot, Thorp, and Joe (Marilyn) Jaskot of Thorp; 5 grandchildren: Mike (Michelle) Troyer, Melissa (Dean) Lew, Megan (Nate) Bitney, Jason (Jenny) Jaskot, and Jennifer (Joey) Burkhardt; 15 great-grandchildren; one nephew: Donald Pawlak of Holcombe; and one niece: Nancy (Matt) Dietrich of Thorp; other relatives and friends.

Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Martha Pawlak, her two brothers, Leon Pawlak and Benjamin Pawlak, her husband, Leonard Jaskot, her granddaughter, Michelle Troyer, and her son-in-law, Rick Troyer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Baskaran Sandhiyagu will officiate, and burial will follow in the old St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Jason Jaskot, Joey Burkhardt, Mike Troyer, Dean Lew, Nate Bitney and Matt Dietrich. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, facial coverings are required along with social distancing.
