Four farmers recognized for achievements by Wisconsin Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer Banquet

Four area farmers were recognized for their achievements in agriculture at the Wisconsin Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer Banquet Saturday at Wausau. In addition to Dan Meyer, Loyal, who was named the state's outstanding young farmer, the following area residents also placed in the competition:

---Charles, Lindner, Loyal, who along with his wife Denise and daughter, operates a 160-acre dairy farm south of Greenwood.

---James Good Jr., Route 2 Marshfield, who operates a dairy farm with his wife, Carmen and their two children.

--- Eugene Winiger, Thorp, who operates a 230-acre farm near Gilman.

Twenty-eight Wisconsin farmers competed in the state contest; they were selected through young farmer programs sponsored by local Jaycees organizations.

The competition involved filling out a detailed information form requesting information on the farmer and the farm operation. Candidates were also interviewed.

In making their decision, the judge's considerations include general information on the farmer's career, goals in agriculture, information on farming techniques and record keeping, details on the farmer's soil and water conservation practises, and the contributions the candidate has made to his oh her community, state and nation.

Judges for the competition were Marvin Machel and Kenneth Buett, both of Wausau, and Audrey Sickinger, Cato.
