Svetlik, Charles W. ( 10 January 1917 - 26 September 1997) With Flag

Charles W. Svetlik, 80, of 2203 Pleasant Ave., New Holstein, died Friday morning, Sept. 26, 1997 at the Calumet medical Center in Chilton.

He was born Jan. 10, 1917 in Cadott, son of the late Frank J. and Mary Sedlacek Svetlik. On Aug. 10, 1949, he married Gloria Milton at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. Charles graduated from Cadott High School in 1935. He received his bachelor degree from Eau Claire Teacher’s College and his Master’s Degree in 1959 from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He taught chemistry and physics in the New Holstein School System. He retired in 1980.

Charles served in the Army Air Corp as a weather forecaster from 1940-1945. After his service in the Air Corp, he worked at the Svetlik Motor Co. in Neillsville for several years. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and a member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124.

Survivors include his wife Gloria, New Holstein; four sons: Charles (Laurie), Merrill; Robert (Cindy), Mount Calvary; Joseph (Theresa) Reedsburg and Richard (Sarah), Seattle, Wash; seven grandchildren; two brothers: Tony and Thomas; five sisters: Lillian Marx, Maryann Kehr, Martha Yakish, Carolyne Lohr and Sister Ruth Svetlik.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

A Funeral Mass was held at 4 p.m. at the church on Sept. 29, with the Rev. Frank Webster officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery in New Holstein.
