Schober, Ralph

LOYAL - Ralph Schober, Loyal School District administrator for the past 18 years, has resigned his position, effective July 1.

Schober, who started with the district as high school principal in 1963, submitted his resignation during a closed session of the Loyal School Board on April 19.

He said he has no specific plans for the future, and resigned "for personal reasons," and because "I just think I could stand a change."

Joan Knack, the School Board clerk, said today that the announcement was not made public until now at Schober's request. Schober had asked that the Loyal weekly paper be informed of the news first.

Knack said the Board will probably be meeting within the next two weeks to reorganize and start looking for a replacement. She added she anticipates the position will be filled by someone from outside the school district.

She said that Schober has "been talking about resigning for a few years now," so that his resignation didn't come as a complete surprise to her.

"Now we're just going to get down to the business of running the school again," she said.

Schober had come under some fire at the school's district annual meeting last July, when Lowell Roehl, Route 2, Loyal, moved to decide Schober's future as administrator. The motion, however, was ruled out of order, because the matter was not include in the statutory duties of the annual meeting.

Vern Dahlby, who still acted as School Board president at the April 19 meeting, would not comment today on the matter, only saying that a Board statement had been made to the school district's official newspaper, the Tribune Record-Gleaner.

Dahlby was defeated in April in his attempt to get re-elected to the School Board.

Board member Louis Aumann, when contacted this morning by the News-Herald, said she was late for an appointment and did not have time to make a comment. Two other Board members, Bernard Clouse and Arthur Olson, could not be reached for comment.
