Hoberg, Navy Electrician’s Mate Third Class Raymond D. (Service Notes - 1977)

Navy Electrician’s Mate Third Class Raymond D. Hoberg, son of Lloyd C. Hoberg of 19 Hewett, Neillsville, recently returned from a short deployment off the coasts of Florida and North Carolina.

He is serving as a crewmember aboard the amphibious command ship USS Mount Whitney, homeported in Norfolk, Va. The Mount Whitney is the flagship of the Commander of Amphibious Group Two.

The two-week exercise was part of the Navy’s Shipboard Electro-magnetic Compatibility Improvement Program (SEMCIP). Navy ships undergo SEMCIP to eliminate internal electro-magnetic interference that results from simultaneous operations of Shipboard radar television and communications equipment.

He and his fellow crewmembers visited Mayport, Fl., for a weekend por call during this testing period.

A 1975 graduate of Neillsville High School, he joined the Navy in May 1975.
