LOYAL -- Loyal High School journalists dominated regional competition in the 1983 Wisconsin High School Press and Photography Contest.

Five entries from Loyal have been forwarded to Madison for judging in the annual statewide competition sponsored by the Wisconsin Associated Press, University-Extension Communications Program and the Wisconsin Press Photographers Association. State winners will be announced May 13 at the spring Wisconsin AP meeting in La Crosse.

Regional winners from Loyal were: News - Dave Oestrich, Hound Happenings, third; Sports - Wayne Genteman, Tribune-Record-Gleaner, third; Editorial - Patti Shafto, Hound Happening, first; and David Oestrich, Hound Happenings, third; and Patti Shafto, Hound Happenings, third.

Four entries from Eau Claire Memorial High School placed in the regional contest and Eleva-Strum High School and Frederic High School each had one winner.

Marvelene Butterbrodt is adviser for Loyal journalism activities.

Judges for the competition were Fred Steffen, Eau Claire Leader-Telegram editor; and Dan Holz, assistant regional editor.
