Neillsville High School students Elizabeth Jorgensen and Jayda Harris were recently named Cloverbelt Conference Academic Scholars.

Jorgensen and Harris were recognized at the conference’s annual banquet April 14, which was hosted by Eau Claire Regis High School.

Harris was recognized for being on honor roll and being a Junior Kiwanian. She also received the Michigan Technological Women Engineers Award. At the high school, she has received an academic letter, earned summa cum laude status, was a part of the National Honor Society and received the Academic Excellence Scholarship. She has been accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and other UW colleges.

Harris also has had leadership roles in FFA and student council, and as her class president. She has also been a part of the Spanish club, leadership team, show choir, Being a Leader and Standing Tall (BLAST) and teen Leadership Council (TLC).

“My academic success has helped me grow because it showed me that if you work hard, it will pay off,” Harris stated in a booklet distributed at the banquet. “Having academic success on my side will help me reach my life goals because it will keep me working hard in college, and in the career path that I choose.”

Harris plans to go to UW-Stevens Point next year but hasn’t decided a major yet.

“My goal in the long term is to help people in my community and the surrounding areas,” Harris stated in the booklet.

Jorgensen was recognized for being on the straight-A honor roll for four years, as well as being a part of the National Honor Society, receiving academic letters and being accepted into Lawrence University.

Jorgensen has also had a leadership role in Spanish club and has been the treasurer of her class. She was also captain in cross county, hockey and softball. She has also participated in 4-H, FFA and the Calvary Lutheran Youth Group.

“My academic success has taught me qualities that will continue to help me in my future,” Jorgensen stated in the booklet. “It has taught me perseverance, time management and determination. Having to develop these skills have allowed me to become who I am today. They will continue to help me through college, too.”

Jorgensen plans to attend Lawrence University and major in environmental studies. She will play on the university’s hockey team, which is a part of NCAA Division III.

“I am hoping to attend law school and attain a career in environmental law,” Jorgensen stated in the booklet.

Jorgensen is the daughter of Matt and Katie Jorgensen. Harris is the daughter of Jonathan and Trish Harris.
