Athletes at Granton High School were honored Monday night in the school
gymnasium at the annual banquet.
Kay Schmitz and Jay Bartsch were named the school's girl and boy athlete of the
year, respectively. Schmitz and Doug Spaete were picked as the girl and boy
senior student-athlete by the Granton Young Adults Club.
Most valuable players and most improved players were named in each sport.
Bud Chase was the boys most valuable in cross country and Carolyn Winter was the
girls most valuable. Tony Schmidt was named most improved.
In volleyball, Schmitz was named most valuable and Ann Steiner most improved.
Schmitz was picked most valuable in girls basketball and Joyce Naedler was named
most improved.
In wrestling, Randy Garbisch was named most valuable and Craig Roehl most
improved.
Darrell Zaleski was named most valuable in boys basketball and Chase most
improved.
In girls track, Tammy Schmidt was named most valuable and Jill Olson most
improved.
The Granton FFA selected Mr. and Mrs. John Pettit and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Spaete
as Fans of the Year.
