As we reach the end of the year it is time to congratulate those students that
rose above all challenges and expectations to finish their senior year in the
top 10 percent of their class. Congratulations to each of these hard-working
students for their dedication to excellence: Hannah Egge, Sidney Eichstadt, Reed
Mertens and Emily Oberle.
Hannah Egge: Throughout her years in the Thorp School District, Hannah Egge
believes that confidence in all situations is one of the greatest lessons she
has learned in those experiences, especially when it comes to performing.
Speaking of performance, Hannah has kept herself busy with plenty of
extra-curricular activities, including forensics, choir, band and drama. Through
it all she points to marching with the band in parades as a standout favorite
experience.
After graduation Hannah is planning to go to college to major in science/botany.
She wants to eventually travel the world, learn all that she can, and acquire
new skills whenever possible. In five years she want to see growth in herself,
her relationships, and in pursuit of her passions while living a full life.
Sidney Eichstadt: School has helped Sidney Eichstadt to learn many important
life lessons. She has developed her people skills, her ability to work with
people of differing opinions and world views, her understanding of different
cultures and ways of thinking, and a healthy grasp on patience and flexibility.
The current COVID climate has also taught her to adapt to new situations.
As she entered high school the upperclassmen advised her that it was important
to get involved in extra-curricular activities, and she believes it was
important advice that she intends to pass on herself. During her four years of
high school she was a member of the student council, including being a class
representative for two years and vice-president for her senior year. In her
sophomore year she was inducted into the NHS, as well as spending her final two
years in the FBLA, with the role of vice-president her senior year in that
organization as well. She spent three years in the Spanish club, four years in
volleyball, as well as many other events including homecoming, secret Santa, and
various fundraisers.
After graduation Sidney plans to study business management and psychology at
Minnesota State University of Mankato. She is unsure what career she will pursue
in this field. Her ultimate life goal is happiness in whatever she chooses to
do. She hopes to be happy in her job, financially stable, and one day able to
emulate being a great role model like her parents have been for her.
In five years she hopes to have graduated from college and began a career in her
field that offers financial security and the ability to make a positive impact
in the work that she does.
Reed Mertens: Reed Mertens gives a lot of credit to Mr. Goettl and the Sparks N'
Sawdust business for the lessons he has learned in school. This tech ed class
taught him about what it takes to start a business, what it takes to keep it
going, and how to deal with real life situations. Reed also gained experience in
customer service, time management, and the skills needed to fabricate both metal
and wood projects. This class has prepared him well for his future business
endeavors.
Reed has kept himself busy with many extra-curricular activities, including:
FFA, NHS, Football, Track, Trap, band and drama. He also helped with the school
business Sparks N' Sawdust, and competed at state CDE for Wildlife
Identification. Some of his happiest memories were had during his time as the
lead in the school play and on the football field every Friday night.
Following graduation he plans to attend UW-River Falls to pursue a degree in
Agricultural Business with a minor in Dairy Science. His biggest life-goal is to
run his own successful business one day. In five years he hopes to have a degree
in Agricultural Business from UW-River Falls as well as having started his own
Ag-related business.
Emily Oberle: Through high school Emily Oberle has learned the importance of
hard work that your effort will determine how well you do in school. Just as
important however is to have a bit of fun along the way and not to take things
too seriously.
Emily has been involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities, including:
Basketball, track, volleyball, FFA, Spanish club, NHS, student council,
Mathletes, and drama club. She highlights basketball for helping her to get
closer to upper and lower classmen, Spanish club for the best trips and friendly
experiences, and drama to help her get out of her comfort zone.
After graduation she intends to attend the University of Madison for Biology on
the Pre-Med track. She plans to become a doctor, but she is unsure of the
specific focus. Her ultimate goals are to become a doctor and fall in love. In
five years she sees herself recently graduated from Madison and hopefully having
her own home or apartment.
