Granton FFA Does It Again (Awards - 1977)

The Granton chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) was one of ten Wisconsin chapters to be awarded a national emblem this week at the annual FFA national convention in Kansas City. The highest FFA award was presented for superior achievement in activities related to vocational agriculture or the FFA.

Attending the convention from Granton were Dean Hosely, Bo Hanuszczak, Rod Naedler, Merle Rose and their advisor Francis Steiner. The Granton chapter is composed of 89 members.

Granton earned the award on the basis of activities in eleven areas of chapter involvement. This past year has been an especially rewarding one for the Granton FFA members, according to Advisor Steiner. This past June, FFA members were recognized as having the best Junior Dairyman’s organization in the state. The Granton FFA has one of its members, John Garbisch, receiving the American Farmer Degree, this fall.

This fall, students from the Granton FFA took the lion’s share of prizes at the Clark County Fair and the Northwest Jr. Livestock show held at Eau Claire. They won the grand championship at both shows in live competition, carcass competition and in showmanship. One of the Granton FFA members, Gary Eibergen, represented the state at an FFA leadership conference in Washington, D.C. and then later in the summer placed second in the state in tractor driving.

Other activities that rated high for the chapter was the annual Fall Festival, the parent and member banquet, the four-day camping trip, FFA week activities, the oat and battery project in which they collected over $400 for cripple children, a grade school “Food For America” program and the recognizing local people with awards.
