Brockman, Rev. Francis J. (25 Aug 1908 – 10 Sep 1976)

The Rev. Francis J. Brockman, 68, Thorp, died unexpectedly Friday in Thorp. He was found dead Sunday at St. Hedwig’s Parish Rectory in Thorp.

He had served as pastor of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp for 12 years, and retired from the active ministry on Jan’s 15, 1974. His priestly career also included service as assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield and as pastor of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford.

Funeral rites will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard’s Parish, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Father Brockman was born August 25, 1908 in Wisconsin Rapids and attended SS. Peter & Paul Parochial School there, and also Lincoln High School, graduating with the Class of 1926.

He received his B.A. Degree at St. Victor’s College Bourbonnais, Ill., and completed his preparation for holy orders at Kenrick Seminary, Webster Grove, St. Louis, Missouri. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 3, 1936, at La Crosse.

His other appointments include assistant pastorates at La Crosse, Cazenovia, and Sauk City, administrator at Clayfield, and pastorates at Wonewoc, Eau Galle, and Waumandee.

The Thorp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
