The Colby Fire Department was called out at 10:30 Tuesday night, January 4, 1972
to extinguish a chimney fire at the Ernest Schmelzer residence, rural Colby.
Fireman Galen Rhinehart stated the firemen stayed at the Schmelzer home for an
hour and 45 minutes to make sure the fire did not reoccur.
