Granton FFA Alumni (Annual Mtg. - 1978)
The fifth annual meeting of the Granton FFA Alumni was held last week at the
Granton High School.
Dave Hillert, President, presented the year’s activities in review which
included buying trophies for the FFA. Giving monetary support to the livestock
exhibitors, furnishing transportation to Kansas City for Keith Eibergen who was
an American Farmer recipient last month, participation in the Granton Fall
Festival, sponsoring five farm institutes, sponsoring an FFA picnic and Carrying
out a local recreation program.
Ideas were expressed for next year included more participation in the livestock
shows, printing a handbook, having a Sunday afternoon picnic and sponsoring
several scholarships. The farm institutes in the spring will be continued.
Randy Meyer, district representative, spoke on the national organization.
National Legion of Merit awards were presented to Al Hanson and Keith Bass,
local members who signed up more than ten new members this past year. The
outstanding alumnus award was presented to David Hillert in the form of a plaque
for his leadership and contributions to the alumni and FFA.
Election of officers was held with Fritz Garbisch, elected president; Orville
Garbisch, vice-president; Jedd Eibergen, secretary; and Dave Tyler, treasurer.
Membership sign-up was also held. This past year 88 persons belong to the
organization, which included 15 women. At present, 20 members have paid lifetime
dues of $100. Members may join until February 1.
The program closed with Mr. and Mrs. Clay Bernick, Spencer, showing slides of
their trip to New Zealand where they worked on farms for one year.
