Schmidt, Robert Edward (20 March 1939 – 15 August 1996) With Flag

Robert Edward Schmidt, 57, of 402 Gwinn St., Loyal, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 1996, at 5:38 p.m. at W3024 Popple River Rd., Unity.

Robert Schmidt was born March 20, 1939, to Edward and Genevieve (Gaden) Schmidt, in Neillsville, He graduated from Loyal High School in 1957. On Sept. 5, 1964, he married June Crockett at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. After his schooling, Robert joined the National Guards in 1959. He served time at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Ft. Ord in Ca., and Ft. Lewis, in Wa. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1964. He returned to his home area and farmed south of Loyal all of his life. He and his wife moved into Loyal in May 1996, and he resided there until the time of his death. He was a member of the Loyal American Legion Post #175, and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife June, two daughters, Kay (Randy) Rinehart of Loyal; Nancy (Mark) Weyer of Loyal, on son, Kendal of Loyal, five grandchildren, Edward and Nicole Rinehart, Samantha, Sarah and Steven Weyer, two brothers, Ronald (Gwendolyn) Schmidt and Eugene (Sheila) Schmidt, both of Spencer, two sisters, Dolores (Andres) Lindner of Muskego, and Charlotte (Frank) Oldham of Neillsville. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal, with Fr. Roman Kaiser officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers were Kenneth Horn, Dennis Roehl, Mark Schmidt, Phil Schmidt, Douglas Roehl and Brian Schmidt. The body lay in state at Rinka Funeral Home, in Loyal, on Sunday, Aug. 18, from 4-9 p.m. The P.C.C.W. Rosary was from 4-5 p.m. and a prayer service was held at 8 p.m.
