Walker, Velda R. (25 April 1927 – 4 May 2021)

Velda R. Walker, age 94, went to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday May 4, 2021.

Velda was born on April 25, 1927, in Clark County, the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Gerhardt) Asplin. She attended Tioga Blackberry Country School and as a teenager she had been employed at the Neillsville Hatchery.

Velda met Harold Lloyd Walker after he was discharged from the Army, and the two were later united in marriage on Jan. 19, 1946, in Willard, at the home of his parents. The couple lived in Willard until moving to their farm in Osseo in Nov. of 1960. Due to failing health Velda had made her home with her daughter Bonnie in Lodi since 2017. In addition to raising her 3 children, Velda had worked several years at the Osseo Hospital mainly with supplies for the emergency and operating rooms. She had also worked at Midelfort Clinic in Eau Claire. With her sister she was a co-partner with “Weight Looser” through Weight Watchers, where they instructed and helped others in the Osseo and Shawano area. In the early 70’s Harold and Velda worked together at the Sunburst Youth Home in Neillsville, and over the years they had also been foster parents to several children. Velda had a variety of interests including gardening and bird watching but enjoyed most spending time with her family and will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who unselfishly gave her attention and time to anyone in need. She also enjoyed camping with her family and the motor home adventure she and Harold took to Alaska.

She is survived by her children, Jim (Jeanne) Walker of Temperance, MI, Bonnie (Jeff) Massey of Lodi, and Butch (Vicki) Walker of Fairchild; six grandchildren, Joe Larson, Dawn Larson, Damian Walker, Dustin Walker, Dominic Walker and David Walker; step granddaughter Ashley Kittelson; ; six great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Noah Larson, Mason McIlguham, Landon and Chase Walker, Devin Walker; step great grandchild Walker King; sister, Jean (Wendell) Suckow of Marquette; brother-in-law, Bernard (Delores) Walker of Neillsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in1987; grandson, Michael Walker; brothers, Hubert, Donald, and Bill; and sisters, Lila Sackett, Florence Beyer, Lois Wick, Betty Asplin and Lorraine Neulieb.

Following the 10:30 a.m. burial in the Fairchild Cemetery a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, starting at noon at Trails End located at W15525 US-10, Fairchild, WI.

The family is assisted locally by Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
