Szymanski, Elaine Evelyn ”Teddy” (19 December 1933 – 23 September 2021)

Elaine E. "Teddy” Szymanski, 87, of Thorp, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley.

Elaine Evelyn Cook was born on December 19, 1933, in Thorp, the eldest daughter of Floyd E. and Evelyn R. (Hubbard) Cook. She was raised and received her education in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1951. After high school, Teddy worked at Thorp Finance until her marriage to Richard J. Szymanski on August 16, 1955, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. They moved to Fort Knox, KY where her husband was stationed in the military, and returned to Thorp following his honorable discharge. They raised their family of 8 children on a farm southeast of Thorp, and retired in 1997, at which time their son, Mike, took over the family farm. They moved into Thorp where they built a home and have resided there since.

She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family, Friday morning coffee, traveling, and spending some of the winter in Arizona.

Teddy was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and its PCCW, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her husband, Rich, of Thorp; her children: Cindy (Jim) Alger of Thorp, Pam Szymanski of Sparta, Rick (Margie) Szymanski of Loyal, Mike (Brenda) Szymanski of Greenwood, Bob (Dawn) Szymanski of Eau Claire, Holly (John) Noah of Thorp, and John (Sherrie) of Thorp; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters: Marjorie Izydorek of Thorp, Jean Hampton of Orlando, FL, and Gail Dunlop of Summit Lake; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Teddy was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Susan E. Szymanski, on April 19, 2011; and her granddaughter, Sara M. Alger, on August 15, 1995.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Baskaran Sandhiyagu will officiate, and burial will follow in New St. Hedwig Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service, with an American Legion Auxiliary service held at 10:20 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given in Teddy's name for a memorial to be established at a later date.
