John M. Wingler, age 86, of Abbotsford, passed away on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at the Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at the Abbotsford Free Church. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment to be held at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Holton with military honors provided by the Dorchester American Legion Post #517. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

John was born on March 2, 1935, the son of Elmo and Florence Wingler in Waterloo, Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Marines from 1954-57, stationed in Iwo Jima and Camp Pendleton. On June 11, 1967, John was united in marriage to Helen Wolfs in West Union, Iowa. They purchased a farm and moved to rural Abbotsford in September of 1967.

John liked to travel, especially where there were mountains. He also liked his animals. John was very meticulous when it came to his equipment, machinery and the barn. He was always proud of his crops of hay and soybeans.

John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen; three children: John Wingler, Jr. and James Wingler, both of Gresham, Ore., and his daughter, Anne (Scott) Keller of Westboro; ten grandchildren: Faith, Hope, Gracie, Christian, Trinity, Seth, Hunter, Cheyenne, Christopher and Joshua. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Phippen of Missouri; his brother, Oran (Marcia) Wingler of Arizona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Daniel; and his brother, Roy.
