Smith, Fred (27 March 1911 – 24 January 1980)

Fred A. Smith, 68, of Owen, died early Thursday morning, January 24, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been admitted several days earlier. Mr. Smith grew up in the Greenwood area, was born on March 27, 1911, in Greenbush (Sheboygan County) and attended Granton area schools. He farmed and operated a milk truck for a time and then in 1943 moved to Owen, where he was employed by Foremost Foods, retiring in 1972.

He married Genevieve Ellert in October 21, 1950, Marshfield ceremonies. She survives him as does two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Joan) Poppe of Milwaukee and Mrs. Michael (Kathleen) Warns of St. Paul, Minn.; and one grandchild. Preceding him in death was a sister and a half-brother.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, January 28, from the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen. The Rev. Meg Shepherd of the First United Church of Christ officiated, with burial made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
