Each year a junior boy and a junior girl are chosen as Badger Girl and Badger
Boy. The 1974 Badger Girl is Vicky Belanger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elden
Belanger, and Badger Boy is John Oberle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Oberle.
The students are selected from the junior class by the faculty of Thorp High
School. The students are selected on the basis of leadership, character, and
service. During the summer the students spend a week of non-political study and
practice in organization and operation of state and local governments in
Wisconsin.
Vicky will spend her time in Madison, while John will go to Ripon.
The Badger Girl’s State delegate is sponsored by the Thorp unit of the American
Legion Auxiliary, and the delegate for Badger Boy’s State is sponsored by the
Cecil Tormey Post of the American Legion.
Alternate delegate to Badger Girl is Kathy Niedzwiecki, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Niedzwiecki, and Badger Box, Doug Haas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Haas.
