Mattes, Douglas W. (22 Jul 1907 – 23 May 1974)

Douglas William Mattes, 66, route 2, Stanley, died at his home Thursday. He was born July 22, 1907 at Gilman and married Sarah Wiskirzhen December 30, 1933. They farmed in the Gilman area before moving to Stanley in 1969.

Surviving are his wife; one son, William Mattes, Escanaba, Michigan; three daughters, Mrs. Anton Jarmoluk, Elk River, Minnesota, Mrs. Clarence Otto, Brandon, Minnesota, and Lois Mattes, Minneapolis; one brother, Richard Mattes, Milwaukee; one sister, Mrs. Arthur Karow, Withee; and 11 grandchildren.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church, Stanley, with the Rev. Leonard Kaiser officiating. Burial was in Meadowbrook Cemetery, Gilman.
