Sawka, John (16 Oct 1917 – 1 Nov 1974)

John Sawka, 57, died at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley on Friday, November 1, 1974 of a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Church, Thorp on Monday, November 4, with Rev. A. Kist officiating at the ten a.m. service. Burial was made in Holy Trinity Parish Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Louis Luzinski, Tony Luzinski, Jerry Knuts, John Knusta, Peter Porotho and Kjell Knudsen.

Mrs. Sawka, a farmer, was born October 16, 1917 at Minneapolis, Minn. After his father death, November 8, 1951, John farmed on the home place, taking care of his mother.

Surviving are his mother, Mary Sawka; one brother, Bud Sawka, St. Paul, Minn.; five sisters (Ann) Mrs. Mitchel Porotho, (Mary) Mrs. Robert Hildebrandt, (Olga) Mrs. Frank Knusta, (Celia) Mrs. Harry Aronson, (Helen) Mrs. John Mroz; fourteen nieces and nephews. One nephew, Robert Hildebrandt Jr., preceded him in death in May 1972.
