Joyce, Vera (4 January 1894 – 15 August 1980)

Vera Joyce, 86, became a Clark County traffic fatality on August 15 after succumbing to injuries received in a Neillsville accident on August 6.

Joyce apparently walked from between parked cars on West Fifth Street in downtown Neillsville on August 6 when she stepped in front of an auto driven by Natalie Hauge of Neillsville. Injuries that led to her death included those to her leg, hip and head.

Funeral services from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville were held Monday early afternoon with the Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

The deceased was born January 4, 1894, in the Town of Weston to Albert and Carrie (Foster) Holt. She received her education in the Forman School in the Town of York. On October 11, 1916, she married William E. Joyce in Neillsville ceremonies. The couple then farmed in the Town of Weston until 1970 when he died. She continued to live on the home farm until her death.

Surviving her is one daughter, Mrs. E. A. (Alice) Peterson, Muskegon, Michigan; three sons, William, and Wilbur, both of Loyal, and Walter, Dayton, Ohio; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death, besides her husband, by four brothers, William, Harry, Clarence and Earl; and two sisters, Jennie and Marian.
