Beck, Carl E. (29 Aug 1894 – 19 Jan 1977)

Carl Edwin Beck, Owen, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at the Havenet Nursing Home in Owen. He was 82.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Owen, with Rev. Harry F. Landow, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Withee Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Paul Fricke, Henry Buss, H.R. Haire, Ray Conzemius, Gene Adams and Harold Frey.

Mr. Beck was born August 29, 1894 at Sherrard, Illinois, and married the former Alta Harshman in 1916. She died in 1918. He later married Mamie Morschech on June 3, 1936.

He received his education at Sherrard, Ill., and moved with his parents to a farm in the Town of Hoard (Clark Co.) in 1905, and farmed there until 1949. He also was an insurance agent from 1930 to 1971. He moved to Owen in 1949.

He was a veteran of World War I, served as a director of the Owen-Curtiss State Bank, served on the Clark County Draft Board, a former member of the Owen Kiwanis Club, treasurer of the Owen Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, and a member of the Van Huisen-Fritz American Legion Post N. 123 at Owen.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gail Beck, Madison; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Alta) Morgan, Coos Bay, Oregon, and Mrs. Richard (Edna Mae) Williams, Taipei, Taiwan; two step-children, Miss Vonnie Mae Morscheck, Indonesia and the Rev. Duane Morscheck, Billings, Montana; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A sister preceded him in death.
