Susie Pfefferkorn, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Dolf Pfefferkorn, Colby, was presented a state award trophy for finishing first in the La Crosse Diocese “Keeping Christ in Christmas” poster contest sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

To attain the honor, Susie finished first in the local contest, then finished first in the district contest at Thorp, and took top honors at the diocese level.

A sixth grader, she was entered in competition among other students in grades 4 to 6. Second place winner in that category on the local level was Jan Waldhart of St. Louis Catholic Grad School, Dorchester, and third place winner, Lynn Hanne, of the Colby upper elementary school.

The contest was also held for students in grades one to three. First place winner was Danny Strohkirch of Colby, lower elementary; second was Pam Ramminger, grade 3, Colby grad school, and third place, Kathleen Jagodzinski, grade 2, Colby lower elementary.

More than 200 posters were entered in the local contest, sponsored by St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus Council 5127.

Presenting the award to Susie was Robert Gregorich, Stevens Point, outh director for the Knights of Columbus in the Diocese of La Crosse. Ray Fliehr, also of Stevens Point, was present at the brief awards ceremony held at St. Mary’s gym Tuesday night. He is public relations director for the Knights of Columbus in the diocese.

Paul Firnstahl, youth director for the Colby KC council, was in charge of the poster contest. He said local contestant winners will receive trophies at an awards night ceremony planned for February.
