Clark Co.-Numerous Students Earn Degrees (1981)

A number of technical schools, colleges and universities recently announced that area students and graduates, received honors or participated in special activities. The students, by school, were reported as follows:

UW-Eau Claire—Scott Wegner was one of 61 students and two faculty members who were recently initiated into Phi Beta Sigma, a national honor society recognizing the academic achievements of freshmen.

Among the 1,044 students to be graduating on May 23 are—Larry Appleyard, son of Lillian Appleyard, Rt. 3 Neillsville, who earned a master’s in business administration.

Nancy Spiegel Rosman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spiegel, Rt. 2 Granton, with a magna cum laude BS degree in special education for the mentally retarded and who plans on teaching in Colorado. She was active in Alpha Lambda Delta, Kappa Delta Pi and the Student Council for Exceptional Children, the latter of which she served as state secretary.

Diane Trimberger, daughter of Wayne and Loretta Trimberger, 401 West Division St., Neillsville, who took a cum laude BA degree in political science who plans on entering law school. She was a student senator, served on the student life commission and finance commission and coordinated an escort service for the campus.

Gary Foster, son of Dr. John and Dolores Foster, 15 Clay St., Neillsville, who earned a BS degree in biology with a zoology emphasis.

Curt Cattanach, son of Robert and Irene Cattanach, 810 East Second St., Neillsville, who took a BSW degree in social work and who plans on graduate work at UW-Madison. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Association of Student Social Workers and the Criminal Justice Club; served as chairman of the Johnson Group Home Project; and was state certified in child abuse and neglect while working with Parents Anonymous.

Lori Shaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Shaw, 102 Park St., Neillsville, who earned a BS degree in nursing and who will be employed as a clinical coordinator for Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She was a 1976 graduate of Rochester Community College with an associate degree in nursing and was employed at Eau Claire’s Sacred Heart Hospital’s emergency room while a student in Eau Claire.

Debra Steiger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Steiger, 25 Clay St., Neillsville, who took a cum laude BBA degree in administrative management. She was a member of the Computer Club, served as vice president of Phi Beta Lambda and was a member of the School of Business’ Guest Executive Seminar Series.

Kay Emling, daughter of Richard and Joan Raebel, Rt. 1 Neillsville, who earned a cum laude BBA degree with a major in business management and who is employed as a sale associate with Chick Feather Real Estate, Inc. of Eau Claire. She was a pledge to Delta Zeta; a member of Phi Beta Lambda of which she managed the business fraternity’s Community Service Division and chaired the Adopt An Elder program. She was also on the dean’s list in 1978.

UW-Marshfield—Laura Backaus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Backaus, 1200 East Second St., Neillsville, received an associate in science degree on May 14.

Mid-State Technical School-Marshfield—Graduating on Wednesday, May 20, were, all in one year programs, were Kathryn Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Johnson, Rt. 1 Greenwood; Joy Lonning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Lonning, Rt. 3 Neillsville, medical assistant; Darla Schmitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Schmitz, 111 Division St., Neillsville, medical assistant; and Lisa Potter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Simenson, 314 East Sixth St., Neillsville, operating room assistant.

Mid-State Technical School-Wisconsin Rapids—Robert Neville, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Neville, Rt. 1 Neillsville, earned an associate degree in accounting.
