Jacobson, Gerald L. (11 June 1905 - 6 September 1983)

Services for Gerald L. Jacobson, 78, of 212 S. Cedar Ave., who died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital, will be Friday at Hansen Funeral Home. The Rev. Virgil E Taylor of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Duane Helgerson will be soloist, and Carol Snelling will be organist.

Burial will be in Loyal Cemetery, where committal services will be held. Pallbearers will be Bert Gordee, Jerome Schmidt, Donald Schmidt, James Gutenberger, William Erickson and Sylvan Spiegelberg.

He was born June 11, 1905 in Mower County, Minnesota, to Mr. and Mrs. Gustav (Lillian Withers) Jacobson. He received his education in Mower County schools and while a senior in high school moved with his parents to Loyal. He then graduated from Loyal High School.

After graduation, he moved to California and worked as a machinist prior to moving to Rose Creek, Minnesota, where he operated a welding a machine shop. During World War II he worked as a civilian in defense work, operating diesel lights in Newfoundland and Alaska. After the war he returned to Rose Creek, where he farmed until 1953. He then moved to Marshfield and operated a farm south of Spence until 1973. After that he worked on steam engines and repaired engines. He donated his time and talent in refurbishing the clock in Marshfield's City Hall tower in 1976.

He married Jeanette Castner December 27, 1951 in Marshfield. A member of Central Wisconsin Steam Engine Club, he is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Lou Ann Jacobson Ball of Farmington, New Mexico; and four sisters, Mrs. John (Erma) Hawkins of Austin, Minnesota, Mrs. Alvin (Edna) Langhaug of Vesta, California, Mrs. Ruby Lines of Minneapolis and Mrs. Everett (Mae) Boe of Rose Creek, Minnesota.
