Dean Jack Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jensen of rural Dorchester, has been chosen Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1973. Nominated by the principal from the Browning Public School System, Browning, Montana, he was selected fro this honor on the basis of professional and civic achievements.

Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America is an annual awards program honoring distinguished men and women for their exceptional services, achievement and leadership in the field of elementary education. Each year the biographies f those honored are featured in the awards volume “Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America.” These educators are now eligible to receive the Outstanding Elementary Teacher of the Year Award Trophy. Five $500 unrestricted grants will be awarded to the schools represented by these five winners. Distinguished judges, along with the Board of Advisors will select the five individual elementary teachers to be honored. In this way, the program thanks the teacher and the school for their contribution to the continuing excellence of American education.

He graduated from the Abbotsford High School in 1964; received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point; taught one year in the Medford Public School System and two years at Galata, Montana. The past four years he was an educator in the Browning School System. Browning is located on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation in Montana. With an enrollment of 3,000 students, 95 percent in the school system are Indian.

Jensen received his Masters of Science degree in teaching this past week at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. His future teaching plans are indefinite, pending confirmation of a new teaching position.
