Poehnelt, Vickie M. (14 Aug 1958 – 5 Aug 2022)

Vickie M. Poehnelt, age 63 of Colby, passed away on August 5, 2022, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Vickie was born on August 14, 1958, the daughter of Eugene and Betty Kremsreiter of Wausau. She was a 1977 graduate of Edgar High School. Vickie gave birth to a son, Shane Lee (Kremsreiter), in September of 1977. Vickie was united in marriage to Mike Poehnelt on August 27, 1983, in Colby, they later divorced. Vickie & Mike had a daughter, Dana Marie (YellowThunder), on February 25, 1989. Vickie worked at AbbyBank and then later moved to John Deere. Vickie loved working at the Colby Elementary & High School in the Special Ed classrooms, working with children with special needs. After many years at the school she found her final position at Marshfield Clinic in the Patient Assistance department, assisting low-income families. She then retired in 2022.

Vickie was an 18 year breast cancer survivor. Some of Vickie’s enjoyments: gardening, flowers, baking, painting ceramics, birds, motorcycle rides, ATV trail-riding, camping, and she enjoyed fishing.

She was one of the most free-spirited, strong, goodhearted, stubborn, bull-headed, independent woman you will ever meet. She had all the love and trust in her heart for her family and friends. She was known as many things; a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and a friend. We all know she was a 5 foot firecracker, when she was mad, but if you turn on her favorite 80’s, 90’s country music, she’ll never leave the dance floor even if she was by herself.

She is survived by her mother, Betty Kremsreiter of Wausau; daughter, Dana (Michael) YellowThunder of Colby and grandson, Kaden YellowThunder of Colby; siblings: Lee (Jill) Kremsreiter of Mosinee, Cindy (Tom) Armitage of Wausau, Ruby (Gerard) Wadzinski of Marathon and Kelly (Amy) Kremsreiter of Weston; nieces and nephews: Stacy (Tony, Chase and Riley) Flink of Stratford, Kody (Raquel, Amaya and Renly) Kremsreiter of Weston, Dustin Wadzinski of Marathon and Katie (Kevin, Everly and Hudson) Mark Strum of Weston and special friend, Dave Wescott. Special thanks to Michael Poehnelt for providing loving support for Vickie, Dana and Kaden during this difficult time. We love you.

Vickie was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Kremsreiter; son, Shane Kremsreiter and nephew, Shawn Dahlke.

Vickie will be deeply missed. She may be gone, but she will never be forgotten.

“Whisper, I Love You to a Butterfly and it will fly to Heaven to deliver your message.”
