Henchen, Raymond R. (17 February 1931 – 3 March 1982) With Flag

Raymond R. Henchen, a Neillsville area farmer, passed away at his rural home on Wednesday afternoon, March 3. He was 51 and in failing health.

Henchen was born on February 17, 1931, in the Town of Weston to Arnold and Helen (Schroeder) Henchen. He received his education in the Weston school and at St. John’s Lutheran School in Neillsville. He then farmed with his parents until entering the U.S. Marine Corps on November 30, 1951, serving in the Aleutian Islands and discharged in late November of 1953.

Henchen returned to the Neillsville area after his service period and farmed with his brother and sister until 2 1/2 years ago when he was debilitated by health problems. He never married. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Neillsville.

Surviving the deceased are immediate family, all from Neillsville. They include a sister, Julia; and four brothers, Herbert, Leo, Wilbert and Edward. His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, March 6, from St. John’s Church with the Rev. Norman Lindloff officiating. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Special music was provided by Kathy Quast and Sharron Nemitz. Pallbearers were Gordon Thoma, Donald Kalso, Franklin Mitte, Art and Ted Stiemke and Erland Greeler.

Attending the services from out-of-town were Mr./Mrs. Ervin Henchen, Princeton, Mich.; Pat Wallace, Elk River, Mich. Elsie Turenne, Thorp; Mr./Mrs. Bruce Henchen and sons, Viroqua; Charles Henchen, Rice Lake; Mrs. Victor Diercks, Mrs. Andrew Djubenski and Robert and Clarence Henchen, all of Greenwood.
