NHS Top Scholars (Jenks/Spangler - 1982)
The top members of Neillsville High School’s class of 1982 were recently
announced by school administration. Taking the valedictorian spot was Brandan
Jenks while Todd Spangler was named salutatorian. Brandan’s parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Dennis Jenks, Rt. 3, Neillsville. Todd’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. James
Spangler, Rt. 3 Neillsville.
Joining Brendan and Todd in the top ten percent of their class are June
Christie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Christie; Vicci Gaier, daughter of Mr
and Mrs. Harold Gaier; Nancy Krause, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Krause;
Cheryl Mayer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mayer; Theresa Meier, daughter of
Mrs. Irene Meier; Kirsten Ruzic, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ruzic; Micki Reil,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reil; Jill Sternitzky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Duane Sternitzky: and Todd Zschernitz, son of Mrs. Mildred Kaczor.
Valedictorian, Jenks was an active member of his high school. He was a
three-year member of the Spanish Honor Society, serving as the group’s president
for two years and held the post of president for three years of the Spanish
Club. Forensics were also of interest with Brendan taking part for three years
and earn ing “A” ratings at state in two of those years.
Brendan was a reporter for three years on the school paper; served as copy
editor for the yearbook and was a member of the High Quiz Bowl team for three
years. He was also selected as a representative for the Laird Youth Leadership
Day and to Badger Boys’ State. In the athletic area, Brendan lettered in two of
the three years he was on the track team and did the same as a member of the
cross country team.
Salutatorian Spangler was an active three-year member of the National Honor
Society, a representative to the Laird Youth Leadership Day and a one-year
member of the High Quiz Bowl team. He also served as boys’ sports editor for the
annual. In the music area. Todd participated in solo and ensemble contest for
three years, taking a second place at state in one of those years. He was a
four-year member of the football team, earning letters in three years; served as
basketball statistician for four-years; lettering in three; was a one-year
member of the baseball team; and was a member of the track team for three years.
