Twelve Abbotsford High School students participated in the initial meet of the
Central Wisconsin Mathematics League held at Stevens Point on Wednesday, Nov 13,
1974. The Abbotsford team place second among 17 schools participating. An
exceptional performance was turned in by David Schiferl, who place first in
Algebra, according to John Allen, Abbotsford High mathematics teacher.
Other notable results were achieved by Richard Schiferl, four in Geometry, Juan
Castro, fifth in Advanced Mathematics and Janice Witt, ninth in Geometry..
The Central Wisconsin Mathematics League is co-sponsored by Sentry and Employers
Insurance companies, and is operated by the mathematics department of the
University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. The Leagues has been in operation for
several years, but this marks the first participation on the part of Abbotsford.
The League holds three meetings during the course of the years and individual
awards are presented in each of three categories, Geometry, Algebra and Advanced
Mathematics. Team awards based on cumulative scores are also presented.
Other students representing Abbotsford were Gregory Pinter, Bruce Maslanka,
Vicky Stettler, Jeanne Writz, Pam Luttinen, Wesley Mueller, Paul Writz and Jill
Schilling.
