Kern, Clarence (11 SEP 1927 - 17 MAY 2002)

Clarence Kern, 74, Greenwood, formerly of Weyerhauser, died on Friday, May 17, 2002, at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at noon on Tuesday, May 21, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Weyerhauser. The Rev. Lou Burden and the Rev. Joe Follmar officiated. Burial was in Island Lake Cemetery.

Clarence Kern was born on Sept. 11, 1927, in Madison, to Thelo and Ruby (nee Dustin) Kern. He attended North Lima School, GI Farm Training, and United Electronic Home Course. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Mary Kroll on July 21, 1950, at St. Mary's Rectory, Bruce. He farmed in Rusk County for many years. He also worked for Big Bend township, Franzen Electronics, Communications Systems Inc., Preston Telephone Co., D's Telephone Construction Co., and Indianhead Telephone Co. He lived most of his life in Rusk County, until residing with his daughter in Greenwood for the past year. His interests included logging in his forest, hunting, gardening, visiting with family and friends, and telling stories.

Survivors include his wife, Mary one son, Everett (Carol) Kern, Cameron five daughters, Rose Kern-Lanier (Thomas Lanier), Ovid, N.Y., Katherine (Larry) Linden, Owatonna, Minn., Susan (Michael) Kucko, Rice Lake, Carol (Randy) Ystad, Greenwood, and Darcy (Alan) Tanner, Pulaski, Tenn. and 15 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Elmer Kern.

Nash Jackan Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
