Hannan, James R. (23 MAR 1929 – 6 AUG 2002)

James R. Hannan, 73, Loyal, died on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at his home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. The Rev. Roman Kaiser officiated. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Meyer, Mark Lyons, Arden Geisler, David Hannan, Brian Bushnell and Dennis Hannan.

James Raymond Hannan was born on March 23, 1929, in rural Neillsville, to Raymond and Margaret (nee Garbisch) Hannan. He was raised and educated in Clark County, and graduated from Loyal High School in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1954 and served overseas in Germany until his discharge in May 1956. Upon returning home, he worked with his father on the home farm. He married Caroline Geisler on June 26, 1965, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. He later purchased the family farm and operated it until 1991. They then moved to Loyal. He began working on the Ralph Pernsteiner farm in 1993, and later worked on the David Walter farm. He worked seasonally at Figi’s, Marshfield, until he started working for Smith Feed Service, Loyal, in 1998. He worked there until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Lady of Fatima Council #4963, and the Loyal American Legion. His interests included reading, spending time with family, gardening, traveling and photography.

Survivors include his wife, Caroline, Loyal; four children, Peter (Michele) Hannan, Spencer, Karan (Patrick) Tarter, Leesburg, Va., Nancy (John) Edwards, Thorp, and Cheryl (Chad) Schmidt, Mosinee; nine grandchildren, Ryan and Alyssa Hannan, Derrek and Jessica Tarter, Kayla, Paige and Zachary Edwards, and Samantha and Bo Schmidt; four sisters, Dorothy (Howard) Sturtz, Eau Claire, Rita (William) Meyer, Verona, Annette (Richard) DeLorimier, Monterey, Calif., and Terry Vesel, Alpharetta, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Russell Lyons, Neillsville; and one sister-in-law, Rita Hannan, Greenwood.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Paul Hannan; one brother, Robert Hannan; and one sister, Marcelene Lyons.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
