Armitage, Willis K. (1 JAN 1851 – 4 APR 1912)

On Thursday April 4, 1912, Willis K. Armitage died at his home in the town of Weston, Clark County, death coming very suddenly from heart failure. He was born in Dodge Co., Wis., Jan. 1, 1851, being the son of Joseph and Mary Sykes Armitage, natives of Lancashire, England. He was married to Miss Susannah Timerson, a daughter of Jacob and Eliza Millholland Timerson, Jan. 1, 1874. They moved to Clark County in the fall of 1882, and located on the farm where he has since resided. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Willis J. and Robert Bruce, and one grandson, Lyle Armitage, all of Weston. One daughter Rosa Belle, died in infancy. Three brothers and two sisters are also living: Sykes P. Armitage of Rose Lawn, Wis., Joseph and Robert of Harrison, Ark., Mrs. Phoebe Tubbs of Seymour, Wis., and Mrs. Frances Tremaine of Oconomowoc.

Mrs. Armitage was a man of high moral purpose, living in a quiet way up to his standard of life; doing each days’ duties with honesty and sincerity, and meeting with hopeful faith and trust life’s fortunes and misfortunes. Although he never formally united with any church, he lived sincerely his Christian principles and gave his loyal support to the Methodist Church near where he lived. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday. The roads were so impassible that the M.E. Pastor could not attend, nor burial take place that day. E.J. Griffith, who actively assists in the church work at Christie, delivered the funeral address. On Tuesday, burial took place at Neillsville, Rev. Prucia conducting the services at the grave. The family wishes to offer their sincere thanks to all the friends and neighbors who in so many ways gave them sympathy and help, and especially appreciate Mr. Griffith’s timely assistance and words of comfort and hope.
