Kearney, Barney (6 JAN 1848 – 6 JAN 1913)

Barney Kearney, one of the oldest residents of Neillsville, Clark County, died suddenly at his home early Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 1913. He was sick only a few hours, heart trouble it is supposed was the cause of death.

Mr. Kearney was born in Ireland Jan. 6, 1848. He came to America with his parents when only a year old. He grew up in Michigan, enlisted and served in Co. G. 19th Mich. in the Civil War. He came to Neillsville about 40 years ago. He was married here to Mrs. Lace, who survives him. Besides his wife he leaves one son Arthur and two daughters, Mary and Kathryn, also a step-son, Wm. Lance of Oconto and a step-daughter, Mrs. Henry Betta of Milwaukee. He leaves also a brother and sister in Michigan and a brother in Oak Park.

For the past fourteen years Mr. Kearney was janitor of the North Side School and was a most faithful, competent and honest officer. He was a member of the G.A.R., the Woodmen and the Odd Fellows, and was esteemed highly, not only in these fraternities but also by all who knew him.

The funeral was held under the auspices of the M.W.A. at Lincoln Hall Tuesday afternoon.
