Obit: Marden, Ben (1887 – 1913)
Surnames: MARDEN Source: CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN & PRESS (Neillsville, Wis.) 03/20/1913 Marden, Ben (2 FEB 1887 – 14 MAR 1913) Friday a telegram to the relatives here announced that Ben Marden had met his death by drowning at Prairie du Sac, Wis., where he had gone a few weeks ago to work on a dam. No particulars of the sad accident were give, but from reports received since, he was attempting to save a man who had fallen into the water, and while saving the other man he lost his own life. The company for whom he worked is making all possible effort to recover his body, but at this writing it has not been found, as the high state of water makes searching a difficult task. Deceased was the son of Charlotte Marden of this city (Neillsville, Clark County). He was born in this county and was twenty-six years old on Feb. 2, 1913. He grew to manhood here and was a good hearted hard working young man. He leaves to mourn his untimely death his mother, two sisters and six brothers. The news of his death came almost as a fatal blow to the distressed mother. On receipt of the telegram she fell in a faint and has since been in a state of nervous collapse. A few years ago another son met an accidental death at Owen, and she has had much sickness and sorrow. The keenest sympathy for her and the other members of the family is felt throughout this city and vicinity. (Follow on in 5/29/1913 Rep & Press) The remains of Bennie Marden, who was drowned in the Wisconsin River at Prairie du Sac March 14, arrived in Neillsville Monday. The body was found by two farmers Sunday, about half a mile below where he was drowned. The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon, Rev. R. Prescott preaching the funeral sermon. |
