Joy, Emily (13 MAY 1841 – 13 MAY 1914)

Miss Emily Konkle was born May 13, 1841 in Wadworth town, Medina Co., Ohio. In 1847 the family came to Wisconsin, locating in the town of Elba, Dodge Co., where she grew to womanhood. In the year 1857 the mother was called into the beyond, leaving the care of the children to the young girl who took up the load and bore it the best she could. In 1858 the father sold the home and with his children moved to Iowa. Not finding things to their liking they returned to the old home state and located in the same town near the old home. Here the father died, just eleven months after the mother’s death, leaving the children alone. In 1860 she was united in the bonds of holy wedlock to Byron Joy, with whom she lived 54 years, taking up life’s duties cheerfully. To this union were born 7 children, 2 boys and 5 girls, three of the daughters dying in early womanhood.

In the year of 1879 the family moved to the state of Minnesota, where they lived the life that comes to all in a new country, making a home for themselves on the western prairies, giving there best years to the work. Then, with old age coming on, they gave over the farm to other and younger hands, returning to the old home state and finding a home in the city of Neillsville, Clark County, where she passed away May 13, 1914.

She leaves her aged husband and two sisters, one brother, two sons and two daughters to mourn her loss.

Funeral was held Friday May 5th from the home. Rev. S. Bunker of Lake Mills preached the sermon, test: Prov. 31, 27 – 28, “She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also and he praiseth her.”
