Heaslett, William (17 MAR 1836 – 26 JUL 1914)

Wm. Heaslett, one of the oldest residents of Neillsville, Clark County, died at his home in this city July 26, 1914. He was born in Antrim County, Ireland, March 17, 1836 and came to Canada at an early age. He was married to Maggie Johnston in 1868 and came to Clark County the same fall. He worked for Hewett and Woods, helped to build the mill at Hewettville, the first M.E. Church in Neillsville and many other early buildings here, and worked also in camp for John Dwyer. About 1875 he went to work for Sam Green in the gun shop and later bought the shop and continued to run the business the rest of his life. His first wife died and he was married to Mrs. W.T. Hutchinson, who lived only a short time. Later he married Miss Malvina Fuller, who survives him.

One daughter of his first marriage, Mrs. O.E. Counsell, lives in the town of Grant; also five children of the last marriage survive: Thomas and Charles who work on the railroad, Blanche (Mrs. Chas. Neuman) in the state of Washington., Lynn of Chicago and Lyle at home.

Mr. Heaslett for many years after coming here identified with many of the activities in this city. He was a fine mechanic, well posted on many things, and was a helpful citizen. Although advancing age had limited his work in later years, the community will still miss his skillful hands in many ways.

The funeral was held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Pinney officiating.

Mrs. Heaslett and the family wish to express their appreciation of the kindness shown by the neighbors and friends.
