Bio: Stallard, John Henry (1919)
Stallard, John Henry (1919) *Notes John Stallard a Humbird boy who is serving a 4 year enlistment in the navy, has sent an interesting account of loading the transport Berwyn at Savannah with cotton for the Liverpool market. John enlisted as a 3rd class fireman and has been promoted to 2nd engineer. He has made a number of trips across to France in the convoy and transport service. The Berwyn has a crew of 65 blue jackets and 10 officers. 12/20/1919: John Stallard arrived home Wednesday noon after serving two years and one half in the navy. He has received his discharge and will spend some time with his parents (Henry & Ida Stiles Stallard). John left Humbird ten years ago going to Beach, North Dakota, where he remained for some time, and later went to Harlowtown. His enlistment in the navy, however was credited to his home town. He made six trips across the Atlantic, and for the past few months has been on a mine sweeper in the navy vernacular, "suicide club", at work in the North Sea. John is one of the last of those whose enlistment is credited to our town, to be discharged. *08/14/1920 John left for Jamestown, ND and from there will go to Harlowtown, Mont. where he was located before enlisting in the navy. (In 1930 he is listed in the Great Falls, Cascade Co., Montana census). |
