Obit: Hein, Valentine (1833 - 1921)
Surnames: HEIN SCHMIDT BRANDSTDTER ROBELIA Source: HUMBIRD ENTERPRISE (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) 08/20/1921 Hein, Valentine (23 FEB 1833 - 12 AUG 1921) Valentine Hein was born in Seifrodan, Germany, Feb. 23, 1833, and came to America in 1857, and settled in Watertown, Wis. Later he was married to Miss Theresa Schmidt, Jan. 7, 1865. They moved to Waterloo, where he ran a grist mill for seven years, and then moved to Humbird, Clark County, Wis. in the spring of 1872, and was a resident here up to the time of his death on Aug. 12, 1921, being 88 years, 5 months and 21 days of age. Mr. Hein's wife preceded him in death twelve years ago. Five children were born to this union, of whom four survive: Oscar M. Hein of Minneapolis, William F. Hein and Mrs. Anna Brandstedter of Humbird, and Mrs. Emma Robelia of Ladysmith. Mr. Hein was well known to all in this community, especially those having grist to be ground at the Humbird Roller Mills. For several years before retiring from active business his son Oscar was associated with him in the milling business. The latter conducted the mills for a number of years following, until the property passed from the family, a decade or more ago. During the later years Mr. Hein made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Brandstedter, and up to a week or so before his death, greeted friends about the village daily, and with the exception of failing eyesight, enjoyed good health. The funeral services were held at the Reformed Church last Sunday afternoon, and were attended by a large congregation of old acquaintances and friends. Burial was in the Mentor Cemetery. |
