Fradenburgh, Abram S. (22 SEP 1846 - 15 DEC 1924)

Abram S. Fradenburgh was born at Ghent, Columbia Co., N.Y., Sept 22, 1846, and died at his home south of Humbird, Clark County, Wis., about 2:00 o'clock Monday morning, Dec. 15, 1924, after three months illness, aged 78 years, 3 months and 23 days.

At the age of about seven years, he moved with his parents to Illinois, and lived in the vicinity of Alden, where he was married on July 8, 1877, to Miss Mary I. King. They resided in Illinois for two years, and in 1879 came to the town of Mentor, Clark County, living for twelve years on the farm now owned by George Mueller. His father, Peter Fradenburgh, and several brothers had preceded him to this vicinity, his father owning the farm, which for the past thirty-one years has been the home of Mr. Fradenburgh and his family. After the death of his father he purchased the farm from the remaining heirs.

On July 8, 1914, the thirty-seventh anniversary of their wedding, he was called upon to suffer the greatest bereavement of his life, the sudden death of his faithful wife and helpmate.

Mr. Fradenburgh was the father of seven children, Gertrude, who died in infancy, Eva Catherine Wampole, also deceased, George, Willis, Peter, Archie and Nina, all, excepting George, at home. He was the last one of a large family of children, a sister having preceded him in death a little more that a year ago.

The whole community mourns the death of this pioneer settler. There never was a family in need, but what he was ready with assistance; if illness or sorrow came to a home, he or some members of his family were there to render aid and comfort. He was a beloved husband and father, and a greatly respected neighbor and friend.

Surviving him are his four sons and daughter, three grandsons and one granddaughter.

The funeral services were held at the home on Thursday afternoon and were attended by a large congregation of friends. The burial sermon was preached by Rev. John Wilcox, and the remains were interred in the family plot in the Houghtonburg Cemetery. Relatives attending the funeral from away were two nephews, George Wheeler of Hebron, Ill., and Vern Batchlette of Zenda.
