---Gilman, Mary E. ( 27 Aug. 1850 - 24 April 1922)

Mrs. William Gilman passed away suddenly at her home on Grand Ave. in this city Monday evening, April 24. She has been in the frail condition for some time from heart trouble, but had been feeling well on Monday almost till the moment of her death. Mrs. Gilman, whose maiden name was Mary E. Hesler, was born at Casenovia, N.Y., August 27, 1850. While still quite young she came with her parents to the town of Greenbusch, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, where she grew to womanhood. On Jan. 23, 1873 she was married to Wm. Gilman. Soon after they went to Osceola County, Iowa, and settled on a claim. Later they lived at different places, finally coming to Neillsville in 1888, and this city has been their home ever since.

Mrs. Gilman was a quiet, refined woman, devoted to her home and family. Her influences was felt throughout her neighborhood by her fine personality and silent example. No higher tribute can be paid to a woman’s memory than this. Her character and teaching are reflected in the lives of her children.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, one son, Judge Charles H. Gilman of Friendship and one daughter, Mrs. E. J. Ketel of Neillsville; also two grandchildren, two brothers, Floyd Hesler of Glenbeulah and H.W. Hesler of Artesian, South Dakota, and two sisters, Mrs. George Barragar of Sheldon, Iowa and Mrs. R. W. Monk of this city.

The funeral will be held at the home at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.
