Brooks, Daniel H. (12 JAN 1849 - 28 APR 1924)

Dan H. Brooks died very suddenly at his home in Chili, Clark County, Wis. on Monday, April 28, 1924. He was up and around as usual all day, making no complaint of not feeling well. At about 5 o'clock he lay down on a bed and immediately complained of feeling chilly. Some of the family went quickly to the bedside and found he had breathed his last and could not respond to their efforts to revive him. He had not the privilege of speaking a last farewell to the near and dear ones he loved in life and who grieve over his sudden death. It has been a terrible shock to all of them.

Dan Herbert Brooks was born in Eaton, Lorain Co., Ohio, on Jan. 12, 1849, being at the time of his death seventy-five years, three months and sixteen days old. When he was nearly ten years of age, he came with his parents to Wisconsin, where they moved in Oct. 1858. They arrived at last in Clark County at the place now called Lynn, at that time a wilderness. In this place Dan grew to manhood, helping in the hard toil of clearing the land an developing a home for his father's family.

At the age of twenty-one he was married to Helen M. Pratt of Neillsville, a lady of bright mental ability.. Four children blessed this union, Herbert A. of Olympia, Wash.; Alfred R. of Bismark, N.D. The wife of Mr. Brooks died about two years ago in Olympia, Wash., where she went with her daughter on a visit. He leaves nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also a brother, Erwin F., and his only sister, Electa E. He was a great lover of music. His voice was clear and sweet in tone. One of his favorite hymns was "Will there be any stars in my crown?" If a life of devotion and toil for loved ones merits any stars, there should be stars in his crown.

Funeral services were held at the home in Chili on Friday, May 2nd, and was laid to rest in a nearby cemetery.
